Reviews for THE WHEATSHEAF INN, EAST HENDRED

Couldn’t be more different to its noisier neighbour pub. Don’t get me wrong, I liked them both but the Wheatsheaf had a bit more quirky character, quiet with old fashioned furnishings but excellent service and a tasty veggie tagine (the only plant based offering) with chunky chips washed down with some lovely Hook Norton bitter for £20. No mobile service but well worth a visit.

I have never really bothered leaving a review in the past but I really wanted to do it for this pub! We stopped there by chance on pur way back from a show in Wantage and they managed to arrange a table for us and our two young kids. The service was great, the waitress was lovely and both my husband and myself really enjoyed our meals. I ordered the lamb shank and it was the best lamb I have had in a decade. Vegetarian options: Lovely nut roast

The food was very good, it was hot and came in good time. Lovely little pub with a beer garden for good weather. There are plenty of choices on the menu. A nice place to meet up, we arrived a little early, but we were invited in to sit and wait for our friends. Parking: Small carpark at the rear.

Lovely pub and food. We called ahead to see if we needed to book. The chap said they would wait which I thought was peculiar but once we go there, we were told that they were going to close as they had no customers. I’m so glad they did. We had a great lunch and a couple of drinks after walking a few miles to get there. So grateful to the owners for staying open for us. Just a shame that’s how it is now. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. Solid service, great lunch and the place is an idyllic village pub. Will be back soon

The perfect, cosy pub atmosphere with a vast menu to choose from. Typical pub meals on offer - fish and chips, steak and always pie or bangers and mash, but also lots of other things to choose from, including starters, vegetarian options, and desserts. Carmel and Bill are friendly and relaxed. Rotating menu of ales on tap, as well as spirits, wine, aperitifs, and digestifs! Keep an eye out for games nights and quiz nights, attracting lots of lovely locals as well. A real gem in the middle of the beautiful village of East Hendred. Book if you can, so they know you're coming ;)

Had a lovely meal in a cosy, warm and typical country pub. Friendly service and fairly priced.

I think this is the 1st full 5 star review I've made. My favourite pug in England. Stunning garden in a very peaceful village. The food is great & well priced, the service is fast and everyone at the pub is friendly. Parking: Maybe 5-7 spaces and a few more on the road. Although it's normally a quiet pub.

Just visited for the first time and it will not be the last, food was so fresh and obviously home-made, after having a starter neither me nor hubby could finish our mains. Great service, exceptional food and reasonable prices.

What a find. Lovely gardens behind the car park are the first thing you notice. Then you walk into a charming interior - cosy and comfortable. We had Sunday lunch which was excellent. Everything you'd want from a village pub and more
